A Blog that has my wedding!

If you scroll down you'll see a wedding at the First Congregational Church of Long Beach and then a reception at the Reef Restaurant.

Location Location Location

We found the church. Now we need to find the reception site. I want a restaurant with a panoramic view in the downtown Long Beach area. I don't want to spend money on the venue itself. I want it to be a restaurant where I spend the money on the food and beverage.

I mentioned the reef restaurant below. We drove by there but they were doing a brunch and we didn't go in. It looks nice. The view looks like it could be amazing.

I just found the Khoury's Restaurant. It kind of has a barn vibe from the outside, but the prices are better and the views could potentially just as good. Something to check out.

The Sky Room is still something we want to checkout. I emailed the venue for a quick quote. So hopefully I will hear back from them this week.

01022010

A date. The number one question you get when you are engaged is: have you set a date? Well it looks like we have. As long as the church is available and we can find a restaurant.

January 2, 2010. It reads the same forwards and backwards 01/02/2010. I'm not a giant nerd. That's the not reason I chose the date. I like it because it's close to the holidays, so family and friends will have time to help. It works for us, because my job ends at the end of 2009 and hopefully I can use the transition time between jobs as our honeymoon. In addition, if I don't find a job, I can join Oliver's health benefits and not have to worry about that. Plus I'm excited to marry Oliver and I can't wait!

So as far as I know right now, we have set a date. :)

Dum Dum Dum Dum

I found it! The most wonderful church located in the heart of downtown Long Beach is the place I want to get married. It's called the First Congregational Church of Long Beach. It was built in 1888 and modeled after the Florence Renaissance style (at least that's what their website says).

Oliver and I attended a church service there today. It was stupendous. The congregation considers themselves liberal Christians. They believe in equal rights for everyone. Their marriage pamphlet even shows two women getting married. Needless to say, there were many gay couples in the pews. The sermons covered what was going on politically when Jesus was crucified. It was absolutely fascinating hearing a different view on the crucifixion. We are going to attend their service on Easter as well.

Oliver is going to call tomorrow to see if it's available.

Long Beach

I'm hunting through Long Beach to see if there is a venue I like.

The Reef Restaurant looks promising.

The Madison Restaurant has the art deco style that I love.

Wilshire Christian Church

It's beautiful. Although, I'm pretty sure it is not in a very nice area. Plus...

UCLA

My Mom mentioned UCLA.
The prices seem really good. I'm not sure about location.
